Nearly six months ago I added an inverex nitrox 6kw hybrid inverter and a 10kWh lithium battery to my solar system. My main reason was simple: daytime solar was being wasted, while our utility charged its highest rate from late afternoon through evening.
I was less interested in backup than in lowering an ordinary household bill. The installer mounted the inverter beside the main panel, set the battery to charge from solar first, and left grid charging disabled. Setup took a morning, including the monitoring app.
The biggest change is what happens after 4 p.m. On a sunny day, the battery reaches full charge around lunchtime. When cooking, running the dishwasher, and using air conditioning later, our home runs from stored energy instead of expensive grid power. Before installation, that evening usage averaged roughly 7 kWh from the grid during peak hours. Now it is usually under 2 kWh, unless clouds linger.
My monthly bill has fallen by about 35 to 45 percent, not a fantasy zero-dollar bill. Savings change with weather, tariffs, and how often we run the heat pump. Still, seeing the battery state of charge at 60% during dinner feels reassuring.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the app showed the battery at zero percent, although the inverter display showed normal voltage. I checked the battery breaker, restarted the monitoring gateway, and waited about ten minutes. The reading corrected itself, but I contacted the installer anyway. They confirmed it was an app synchronization issue, not lost capacity. Since then, I check the inverter lights before trusting the phone notification.
For me, the value is less about dramatic energy independence and more about shifting solar power into the hours when electricity hurts most. The solar battery has made our evening routine cheaper and quieter financially.
