Running my evening routine changed after I installed a growatt spf 6000t dvm and a 10kWh lithium battery bank last spring. Before that, I watched the utility meter climb every time the refrigerator, well pump, and clothes dryer ran after sunset. Now the inverter stores my rooftop solar power during the afternoon and carries most of the house through the expensive evening hours.
The biggest difference shows up between 4 and 9 p.m. I normally get home, start cooking, run the dishwasher, and charge an electric mower. Previously, those loads came straight from the grid at the highest rate. With battery backup enabled, the Growatt supplies them quietly. On sunny days, my daily grid consumption has dropped by roughly 8 to 12 kWh. That has cut my monthly bill by about $35 to $55, depending on weather and our laundry habits. I still buy power overnight in winter, so I am not pretending the battery makes electricity free.
I also appreciate seeing the battery state of charge on the display. I set a reserve around 25 percent, which leaves enough capacity for a short outage while allowing useful evening discharge. During one storm, the power flickered twice. The inverter switched over fast enough that our lights blinked, but the router and freezer stayed on. That small moment made the solar battery feel more practical than the bill savings alone.
My only annoyance was an initial low-battery warning after several cloudy days. I had accidentally left the electric water heater on its normal schedule, draining the bank faster than expected. Adjusting that schedule and raising the grid-charge threshold solved it. Since then, the system has been predictable: solar in, battery storage after dark, and less peak-hour electricity purchased. For my home, that simple routine is the real win for our household too.
