Our setup uses a growatt all in one inverter with a lithium battery connected to our rooftop solar panels. I chose the all-in-one design because I wanted fewer separate boxes and less wiring in the utility room. The installer finished in one day, although getting the monitoring app paired took another evening of patience. Once it was working, I could see solar generation, battery state of charge, and household consumption in real time.

The biggest difference shows up after sunset. I set the battery to charge from surplus solar and discharge during our utility’s peak window. On sunny days, it carries us from dinner through bedtime, so we buy little grid electricity when rates are highest. Our monthly bill has fallen by roughly 35% compared with last year, despite using the heat pump more.

There was one scare: the battery stopped discharging one night after a firmware update. The app showed normal voltage but no output. I power-cycled the inverter and checked the breaker, then contacted support. They advised restarting the communication dongle, which fixed it in five minutes. It has been stable since.

I still check the battery level before cloudy days and avoid scheduling big appliances too early in the evening. That small habit helps preserve backup capacity. I like knowing we have power during outages too, though I have not tested a long blackout yet. For me, the value is not just the equipment; it is the quieter, more predictable monthly energy bill.
