Recently I replaced my lead-acid backup bank with a growatt spf 3000 compatible LiFePO4 Battery after getting tired of watching its voltage sag during evening use. My setup is six rooftop solar panels, a Growatt SPF 3000 inverter, and this 12V lithium battery in a utility closet. I installed it with a friend. The battery’s built-in BMS made me feel especially comfortable.
The biggest difference appears between 5 and 9 p.m., when my electricity rate is highest. Instead of pulling power from the grid after dinner, the inverter switches to stored solar energy. I run the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and sometimes a fan from the battery. Before installation, those evening hours regularly added around $1.50 to $2 to my daily bill. Now that portion is usually under 30 cents, depending on how sunny the day was. Over a month, I’m saving roughly $35, which is more noticeable than I expected from one battery.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After two cloudy days, the low-voltage warning appeared just before sunrise. I initially blamed the charge controller, but the battery state of charge was simply too low because I had left a space heater plugged into the backup outlet. Once I moved that heater off the system, the solar panels recharged the battery normally. That mistake taught me to watch overnight loads and set a sensible low-battery cutoff rather than expecting unlimited backup power.
So far, the LiFePO4 chemistry has been pleasantly low-maintenance. I do not check water levels, and the battery feels steadier under load than my old bank. It has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made solar self-consumption practical and evening usage cheaper. For my home, that simple peak-hour saving is the reason I’d choose lithium battery storage again.
