I installed my solar battery system last spring after getting tired of watching my electricity bill jump every evening. My rooftop solar panels produced plenty during the day, but most of us were at work then, so the surplus went back to the grid for very little credit. Adding a 10 kWh lithium battery changed that routine immediately.
The setup was simpler than I expected. My installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and programmed it to charge from solar first. I also compared several backup options online, including “Lithium ionen batterien 12v,” before choosing a properly integrated home storage battery rather than assembling a DIY battery bank. The app shows solar production, household consumption, battery percentage, and grid use, which makes it easy to see what is happening.
The biggest difference appears between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. We cook dinner, run the dishwasher, and use lights while the panels are no longer producing much. Before the battery, those were expensive peak-hour imports. Now the battery usually covers most of that period. My average monthly bill has fallen by about 35 percent, although savings vary with cloudy weather and how much heating we use. I especially notice the improvement in spring and autumn, when the battery often carries us through the entire evening.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging overnight and stayed at 100 percent. The app showed no clear error, but restarting the inverter and checking the operating schedule fixed it. I now glance at the battery monitor every few days, especially after updates.
After several months, I am happiest with the practical change: less reliance on the grid and a much smaller peak-hour bill. The solar battery is not magic, and winter production still matters, but it has made my existing solar system noticeably more useful every day.
