Running my home on solar power feels much more practical now that I have a growatt 6.5 kwh battery installed. My main reason for adding storage was simple: I wanted to use more of the electricity my rooftop panels generate instead of sending the afternoon surplus back to the grid for a low credit.
The installation itself was fairly straightforward. My installer mounted the battery in the garage beside the inverter and connected it to the existing solar system. The setup took most of a day, including checking the backup circuits and configuring the monitoring app. I chose to keep the refrigerator, internet equipment, lights, and a few outlets on the backup load panel. I did not try to power the whole house, because running the electric oven and central air from a home battery would drain it quickly.
The biggest everyday difference comes after sunset. During sunny weather, the solar battery usually charges by mid-afternoon. Once my utility’s peak period begins, the system supplies power from storage instead of pulling as much from the grid. My evening electricity usage is normally around 4 to 5 kWh, so the 6.5 kWh capacity covers most of it when the battery starts full. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly 25 to 35 percent compared with similar months before installation, although cloudy weeks still make a noticeable difference.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped charging after a software update, and the app showed an unhelpful warning. I restarted the inverter and contacted the installer, who remotely reset the battery settings. Charging resumed later that day. Since then, I check the state of charge in the app once in a while, but I rarely need to interfere.
For me, the value is not complete energy independence. It is quieter peace of mind during outages and lower peak-hour bills every month. The solar-plus-storage setup has become part of my normal routine rather than something I constantly monitor.
