Solution Solar Inverter
Running our home on solar storage has changed how I view electricity bills. Before installing a battery, I watched our panels produce power during the day, yet we still bought expensive electricity after dinner. The difference came from pairing a 10kWh lithium battery with a growatt hybrid solar inverter. Now, instead of exporting most afternoon generation, the battery charges while the sun is strong and runs our house through the evening.
Our peak-hour savings are the highlight. We usually cook, run the dishwasher, and use the heat pump between 6:00 and 9:00 p.m. On sunny days, the battery covers that demand. My utility app used to show a noticeable spike in those hours; now the graph is much flatter. Last month, our bill was about $48 lower than last year, despite similar weather. That is not energy independence, but it is real money I notice.
The setup was easier than I expected. The installer configured battery backup priorities so the refrigerator, internet, and lights stay powered during an outage. We had one evening outage, and I barely noticed except for the inverter beep. Later I found the battery had stopped discharging because its reserve setting was higher than I intended. An adjustment in the monitoring app fixed it, although I waited until the next cycle to confirm normal operation.
I do check the state of charge most mornings, especially before cloudy weather. The system is not completely hands-off: winter production is lower, and I still buy some grid power. Still, having a home battery makes solar energy feel useful beyond daylight hours. For my household, it has become a practical peak-hour bill-saving tool, not a flashy gadget.
