Solution Solar Battery
Replacing our old backup unit with a solar energy storage battery has changed how we use electricity. Before installation, our rooftop panels sent unused power straight to the grid, while we bought expensive electricity after sunset.
Now the battery charges through the afternoon and runs the fridge, lights, Wi-Fi, and television through the evening.
The biggest difference shows up during peak hours. My utility rate climbs between 4:00 and 9:00, so I used to avoid the washing machine and delay cooking dinner. Since adding this 10-kWh home battery, we use stored solar instead. On a sunny day, the system reaches full charge by around 2:00, and I can run the induction cooktop and air conditioner without pulling much from the grid. Our evening usage has dropped noticeably, and the monthly bill is usually $45–$60 lower than last summer.
I also learned that battery capacity on paper is not the same as usable capacity in real life. The inverter keeps a reserve, and cloudy weather reduces the charge I can use. That was disappointing at first, but the backup setting makes sense because we still have power during an outage.
A hiccup happened during the month. The battery stopped charging at 92%, and the monitoring app showed a warning about temperature. I cleaned dust from the inverter vents and moved a cardboard box from the equipment. After that, charging returned to normal. Support confirmed the unit was protecting itself.
For anyone comparing a lithium battery with a dry battery for inverter, I would focus on daily cycling, not the advertised number. My solar battery has been worthwhile because I see the savings month, and the house feels less dependent on peak grid power.
