5:30 a.m. used to be my most expensive time
of day, because the heat pump and refrigerator started
working before sunrise, while my solar panels produced nothing.

The biggest surprise has been peak-hour bill savings. Our
utility charges more between four and nine p.m., exactly
when dinner, laundry, and air-conditioning usually pile up.
Instead of buying that electricity, my home battery discharges
gradually through the evening. On our first full month,

breakfast, mostly to see the battery state of charge.

On sunny days, the panels refill it by early afternoon;
on cloudy days, the inverter saves enough for dinner
and shuts down before bedtime. That timing has made the
solar battery feel like something useful, not just expensive
equipment mounted in the garage. I did have one
minor troubleshooting moment during the second week. The
battery stopped discharging at 62 percent, although the app
showed a normal connection. I checked the breaker, restarted
the inverter, and waited ten minutes. Nothing changed. A
support technician spotted that my backup reserve had accidentally
been set to 60 percent during setup. Lowering it to
20 percent fixed everything immediately. Since then, the system
has run quietly. I still keep a grid connection for
backup, but I rarely notice it during peak pricing.
