growatt inverter 15kw

Running my solar battery system has changed the way I use electricity at home, especially during expensive evening hours. I installed a 15kWh lithium iron phosphate battery last spring alongside a growatt inverter 15kw. The goal was simple: store excess rooftop solar during the day and use it after sunset instead of buying power from the grid.

The installation was less disruptive than I expected. The electrician mounted the battery in my garage, ran a new backup circuit for the refrigerator, internet, and a few lights, then spent most of the afternoon programming the inverter. We set the battery to prioritize solar self-consumption and reserve twenty percent for outages. Seeing the app show solar generation, battery charge, and household load in real time made the setup feel surprisingly manageable.

My biggest saving appears between 4pm and 9pm, when our utility charges the highest rate. Before, cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and air conditioning could push our evening usage into the costly tier. Now the battery usually covers those hours. My monthly bill fell from roughly $210 in summer to around $125 in a similar month, despite using the air conditioner regularly. Savings vary with cloudy weather, but the difference is obvious. On a sunny day, the battery reaches full charge by early afternoon, and we use little grid electricity until morning.

There has been one troubleshooting moment. In December, the battery stopped discharging overnight because the inverter had switched into backup reserve mode after a brief outage. I initially thought something had failed, but the app showed the reserve setting had been increased during a firmware update. I lowered it back to 20%, restarted the system, and normal operation returned. That scare taught me to check settings before calling the installer.

What I appreciate most is how little attention the system needs now. I glance at the solar monitoring app with my morning coffee, but it quietly shifts energy around. The battery has not eliminated my electric bill, and winter production is weaker, but it has made our household more predictable. For me, the best proof is seeing the meter barely move during peak pricing.
