Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
Every evening, I used to watch the utility meter creep upward after dinner, especially when the heat pump and induction cooker were running. I installed a home solar battery last spring, mainly to keep my rooftop solar instead of sending it back to the grid during those costly hours.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. My installer mounted the battery beside the inverter, added a backup panel, and connected it to the existing system. I had seen the name deye sun500g in forums, but my unit is different; what mattered was simple monitoring and dependable battery cycling.
The biggest change shows up between 4 and 9 p.m. Before storage, I bought electricity during peak hours even though the panels had produced plenty earlier. Now the charge controller fills the battery in the afternoon, then the system automatically discharges after sunset. Evening consumption feels disconnected from an expensive rate.
On my latest bill, peak usage fell from roughly 280 kWh to 70 kWh. The total bill dropped by about $62, which is not life-changing, but it is consistent. I am saving around $50 to $70 monthly, depending on cloudy weather, and the battery's self-consumption setting has made savings predictable.
I did have one minor scare in July. The monitoring app showed the battery at 18 percent and refusing to discharge, despite a sunny afternoon. I checked the event log and found a high-temperature protection warning. The cabinet felt warm, so I cleared leaves blocking a ventilation gap and waited.
After the temperature dropped, normal discharge returned without a service call. That small problem taught me airflow matters in battery maintenance. I now check the vents monthly and keep app alerts enabled. For my household, steady peak-hour savings are the real value of solar storage and some peace of mind.
