Now the battery charges from solar through the afternoon and runs our refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and heat-pump water heater during the expensive evening window. I check the monitoring app while cooking, and seeing the battery discharge at a steady rate is satisfying. On sunny days, it carries us from around 4:30 p.m. until bedtime, sometimes with 35% state of charge remaining. That has lowered our monthly bill by $65–$90, depending on weather and how much laundry we run after work.

We no longer wait for cheap overnight electricity or worry about accidentally hitting peak pricing. The inverter automatically prioritizes solar charging, then supplies the house from the battery before pulling from the grid. I did adjust the reserve setting upward during a cloudy week because I wanted backup capacity for an outage, which reduced savings but felt worthwhile.

I did have one troubleshooting moment in July. The app showed the battery at 18%, even though the panels were producing well. After checking the cables and restarting the monitoring gateway, I found a scheduled backup mode had been enabled after a firmware update. Disabling it restored normal charging immediately.

That small hiccup aside, the basen 280ah setup has felt practical. Solar battery storage is doing useful work every day. My advice is to watch your utility rate schedule and reserve setting before installation. If your evenings are expensive, usable battery capacity can make a noticeable difference.
