Since installing my home solar battery system last spring, I’ve paid much closer attention to what happens after the sun goes down. My main focus has been peak-hour savings, and the difference is more noticeable than I expected.
We have a modest rooftop solar array, so before adding storage, excess afternoon production went back to the grid. In the evening, we used grid electricity when rates were highest. Now our battery charges during the sunny hours and runs the refrigerator, lights, router, and heat pump through the expensive period.
