Keeping my solar battery charged through the afternoon has changed how I think about electricity at home. I installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside a 2kva inverter last summer, mainly to avoid buying power during our expensive evening tariff.

The setup was less dramatic than I expected. The installer mounted the inverter, connected the battery storage unit to my existing solar panels, and spent most of the day checking cable routing and settings. I watched the battery app obsessively during the first week. By 4:30pm, the panels usually had filled it to around 90%, and after dinner the system quietly supplied our lights, refrigerator, router, and television.

That shift made the biggest difference to my bill. Before the battery, our evening usage regularly pushed us into peak pricing. My monthly bill fell by roughly 30%, although the exact saving changes with weather and how much cooking we do. On sunny days, I often reach bedtime with 20–30% remaining, which feels like useful backup rather than unused capacity.

I did have one small problem in January. The battery stopped discharging overnight, and the app showed a communication warning. I first assumed the solar battery had failed, but the physical battery indicator was normal. After restarting the inverter and reseating the network cable, I found the monitoring gateway had lost Wi-Fi after a router update. Once reconnected, the discharge schedule worked again.

That incident taught me not to judge the system only from the phone app; the appliances were still protected, and the battery itself was fine. Overall, lower peak bills and dependable backup justify the investment.
