After a year with my home solar battery, the biggest change has been how little electricity I buy during peak hours. Before installing storage, my panels stopped helping as soon as the sun went down. Dinner, laundry, and evening heating all happened when electricity was most expensive. Now the battery stores excess solar energy during the afternoon and runs most of the house from about 5 p.m. until bedtime.
On a typical sunny day, I generate around 18 kWh and use roughly 10 kWh myself. The remaining energy charges the battery instead of being sent straight back to the grid. By 7 p.m., my battery is usually sitting near 80%, and it drops to about 30% overnight. That has reduced my peak-rate consumption noticeably. My monthly bill used to average around €145 in winter and €90 in summer. Since adding the solar battery, those figures have fallen to about €105 and €45, although weather and heating use obviously make a difference.
The system is a 10 kWh lithium battery connected to a hybrid inverter. I was initially confused by the app because it showed several different numbers for solar production, household consumption, and battery flow. After a few days, I stopped checking constantly and now mainly watch the state of charge and daily grid import.
I did have one minor issue during the first month. The battery stopped discharging overnight, even though it showed plenty of stored energy. A reboot did not help, but the installer found that the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 60%. Lowering it to 20% fixed the problem immediately.
I have seen the phrase “batterie lithuanien” used in battery discussions, though my own unit is simply a lithium home storage battery. Whatever the label, the practical benefit is straightforward: I use more of my own solar power, avoid expensive evening electricity, and think much less about the bill.
