Solution Solar Battery
Before installing my home battery storage system, I assumed the biggest benefit would be backup power. It turned out to be much more noticeable on my monthly electricity bill.
I paired a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery with my rooftop panels and an abb solar inverter. The installation took most of a day. The installer mounted the battery in the garage, ran a new cable to the inverter, and showed me how to change the reserve level in the app. I left 20% reserved for outages, which feels like a sensible compromise.
The real savings come between 4 and 9 p.m., when my utility charges its highest rate. Instead of pulling from the grid, the home energy storage battery runs the refrigerator, internet, heat pump, and lights. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon, then the battery discharges after dinner.
My evening consumption averages about 7 kWh, so I usually avoid nearly all peak electricity use. Before storage, my summer bills averaged around $180. Since adding it, they have landed closer to $115, although weather and rates vary. That roughly $65 monthly reduction is more convincing to me than any brochure estimate.
I did have one small scare. During a cloudy week, the battery reached its reserve before bedtime, and the app showed “grid charging disabled.” I had accidentally selected a setting that prevented overnight charging. After switching that option back on, the system charged during the cheaper early-morning window. Nothing was broken, but it reminded me that battery storage is not completely set-and-forget.
Overall, the best part is how quietly it works. I rarely think about the solar battery now; I just notice fewer expensive evening imports on my utility statement. For me, usable capacity and time-of-use rates mattered more than headline capacity.
