Owning a solar battery has changed the way I use power at home. I installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside my inverter last spring, after my electricity bills climbed under peak rates. The setup was straightforward: a local installer mounted the battery, connected it to my rooftop solar panels, and configured it to charge during sunny hours. I left the settings alone.

The biggest difference appears between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. Before storage, I sent excess midday solar energy to the grid for a small credit, then bought it back at the expensive evening rate. Now the battery runs my refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and induction cooktop after sunset. My monthly bill fell from roughly $180 to $95, although weather and usage vary. It is not perfect every month, but obvious on the statement.

I also noticed an unexpected benefit during a short outage. The transfer was automatic; the lights flickered once before the battery took over. I discovered the system had switched to backup mode through an app notification. It kept our freezer cold and my home-office router online.

One small annoyance happened in August: the battery stopped charging because its temperature sensor reported an error. I powered down the inverter as instructed, checked the ventilation clearance, and restarted it. The warning disappeared within five minutes, and support later confirmed a loose connector. Since then, I have kept the vents clear and check the monitoring app occasionally.

For me, this solar battery is not about total energy independence. It is about using more of my own solar power, reducing peak-hour purchases, and having quiet backup when the grid misbehaves. I even considered adding another battery, but the current capacity covers our normal evening routine. Our neighbors use solar pumps irrigation, but simple battery storage has delivered our biggest improvement.
