8 months ago, I installed a 10kWh solar battery beside our inverter, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. My system includes 280ah grade a lifepo4 cells, a hybrid inverter, and enough roof solar to recharge the battery on a reasonably sunny day.
The setup was simpler than I expected. An installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected the communication cable, and configured charge and discharge windows through the inverter app. I spent most of one afternoon checking settings rather than doing physical work. The only confusing part was choosing a reserve level: I settled on 20%, so there is still emergency backup without wasting too much usable capacity.
The noticeable change is during peak hours. Before the battery, our electricity bill regularly included a steep 4pm-to-9pm rate. Now the battery charges from rooftop solar around midday and runs the refrigerator, lights, Wi-Fi, and television after sunset.
On a typical weekday, I see it discharge steadily from about 6:00 p.m. until bedtime, while the grid meter barely moves. During cloudy weeks, I sometimes top it up from the grid only if the weather forecast looks poor.
That small bit of planning has reduced our monthly bill by roughly $45–$70, depending on sunshine and air-conditioning use. It is not a dramatic zero-bill result, but the difference is obvious when comparing the utility statements.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment in the second month. The battery stopped discharging at 30% even though the app showed plenty of charge. I restarted the inverter, checked the battery breaker, and discovered a loose communication connection.
After reseating it, the system returned to normal operation. Since then, I glance at the state-of-charge screen once or twice a week, but I have not needed another reset. For me, the benefit is quieter evenings and predictable savings.
