Running my home on a Growatt SPH 5000TL3 BH UP hybrid inverter with a battery has changed the way I think about electricity. Before the installation, I mostly watched the solar app out of curiosity; now I check it when I am deciding whether to run the dishwasher or charge the car.
The setup was not completely painless. The electrician had to adjust the CT clamp direction after the first test, because the app showed power being imported while the panels were producing. Once he flipped it, the energy flow made sense: solar first powered the house, surplus charged the lithium battery, and only the remainder went to the grid. I appreciated that practical fix more than a glossy promise of “plug and play” installation.
My biggest win is peak-hour usage. In my tariff, evening electricity costs much more than midday power. I set the battery to charge from solar during the day and discharge after dinner. On sunny weekdays, the battery usually covers cooking, the television, and our heat pump until around bedtime. My monthly bill has fallen by roughly 30–40% compared with the same months before solar storage, although weather and household habits make that figure move around.
The system is not magic. A run of cloudy days can leave the battery at 20% by evening, so I still buy grid electricity. I keep that reserve because a sudden outage is more annoying than expensive; I want enough stored energy for the router, fridge, and a few lights.
One small annoyance is that the inverter fan becomes audible when the battery is charging hard on a hot afternoon. It is not loud enough to bother us in the utility room, but I would avoid mounting this equipment beside a bedroom.
