Before adding it, I sent daytime electricity back to the grid while buying power every evening. Now the battery covers much of that evening use, especially during peak hours when rates are highest. Daily operation has been surprisingly simple.

The installer mounted the battery beside our inverter in the garage and connected it to our existing solar system. Setup took a day, including programming the app. I kept a twenty percent reserve for outages. The app shows solar production, battery charge, household load, and grid imports, so I understand what is happening without opening the electrical panel each day or changing settings.

On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by early afternoon. After sunset, it carries our refrigerator, lights, router, and heat-pump water heater. Our utility charges a steep peak rate from four until nine p.m. Instead of buying those hours from the grid, we usually run on stored solar energy. My monthly bill fell from roughly $180 to $105 over the first full season, with similar usage. Winter clouds and battery losses reduce savings, so I do not claim every month is spectacular. Still, avoiding peak electricity purchases is the clearest benefit on my utility statements.

My one troubleshooting moment happened during a hot weekend. The battery stopped discharging at 63 percent, although the app showed the house drawing power. I first suspected the solar inverter, but the status screen showed reserve protection. A firmware update had reset my backup threshold to 65 percent. After lowering it again, discharge resumed within a minute. Since then, I check the app every few days, not obsessively. The system has also carried us through two short outages, making the backup value feel real.
