Keeping my electricity bills predictable was the main reason I added a solar battery to our home. We already had rooftop panels, but evenings were still expensive: after sunset, the house quietly pulled power from the grid while rates were highest.

I chose a 10kWh lithium battery paired with a hybrid inverter. The installer finished in one day, mounted the battery in our garage, and connected it to the existing solar array. The setup was less disruptive than I expected. I only had to move a few boxes and wait while the electrician tested the backup circuit.

The first week was the real test. I programmed the system to charge from sunlight and discharge between 4pm and 9pm. On sunny days, it carried our refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and evening cooking without grid power. Our utility app showed noticeably lower peak consumption, and my daily bill fell by roughly $2–$4, depending on the weather. That sounds modest, but over a month it has covered a meaningful portion of the battery's payment.

One evening, the battery stopped discharging at 62%. I initially thought the solar inverter had failed, but the monitoring screen showed a reserve setting I had accidentally enabled. After lowering the backup reserve to 20%, it worked normally. I now keep that reserve because short outages are common here, and the battery switches over quickly enough to keep our router and freezer running.

Before buying, I compared the 5kw inverter price with larger hybrid inverter options and worried about overspending. In hindsight, battery capacity, usable depth of discharge, and the installer’s warranty mattered more to me than chasing the cheapest quote. I am still learning how weather changes performance, but this energy storage setup feels practical rather than flashy. I check the app each morning; fewer imports make me smile.
