inverter for wifi router

Night-time after we installed our home solar battery system, I stopped thinking about electricity as something that simply disappeared from the grid. The biggest change has been using stored solar power during expensive evening hours, especially between 4:30pm and 9pm.

On sunny days, our 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery usually reaches 100% before lunch. When the solar panels stop producing, the battery takes over automatically. I run the refrigerator, lights, television, dishwasher, and sometimes a small air conditioner without pulling much from the grid. Before storage, those evening loads were exactly what pushed us into the highest tariff period.

Our monthly bill has fallen from around $185 to roughly $110-120, depending on weather and how often we cook at night. That is not a dramatic promise of energy independence, but saving about $65 each month feels very real to me, particularly because the battery charges from sunlight we would otherwise export cheaply.

The one hiccup happened during a storm last winter. The battery was at 28%, and the gateway showed it was offline. I discovered the router had rebooted, so the monitoring app could not communicate with the inverter. I kept wondering whether the battery was actually working. After restarting the router and waiting five minutes, everything reconnected and the backup circuit continued normally. Since then, I keep a small UPS, basically an inverter for wifi router, so the internet and battery monitoring stay alive during outages.

That experience also taught me to check the battery state of charge rather than panic at an app alert. The system has not eliminated every electric bill, but it has made our household consumption more predictable. On cloudy weeks, I still buy power overnight, while on bright weeks, we use very little grid electricity after sunset. Those savings justify storage for me.
