Solution Solar Inverter
Keeping my solar battery system simple has made the biggest difference to my household electricity bills. I installed a 5kva solar inverter with a 10kWh lithium battery last summer, mainly because our evening electricity use was getting expensive. The installation took most of one day. My installer mounted the inverter beside the main distribution board and placed the battery on a raised bracket in the utility room. It was not glamorous, but the cables were tidy and the monitoring app connected without drama.
The saving became obvious during peak hours. Before storage, I would come home around six, switch on lights, television, fans, and sometimes the washing machine, while solar production had already dropped. Now the battery runs those loads automatically. On a typical weekday, it discharges from about 80% to 30% before midnight, then recharges from the panels the next morning. My utility bill has fallen by roughly 35%, although the exact amount changes with cloudy weather and how much cooking we do. That reduction has mattered more than I expected; I am no longer watching the meter nervously during dinner.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the monitoring app showed the battery at zero percent even though the inverter was still supplying power. I checked the physical display and saw normal voltage, so I did not restart anything. The installer explained that the app had lost its state of charge reading during the update. A manual refresh restored it within a few minutes. Since then, I have learned to check actual inverter status before assuming something is wrong.
What I appreciate most is the battery backup during short outages. It switches over quickly enough that my router and refrigerator keep running, while larger appliances stay off. I still avoid treating it like unlimited backup.
