2 winters ago, I added a lithium battery to my rooftop solar system, mainly to avoid buying expensive electricity in the evening. My monthly bill fell by roughly 25–35 percent, depending on weather and how much heating or cooling we used. I still import power on cloudy days, so I would not describe the house as completely energy independent.

One small troubleshooting moment happened during a very hot week. The battery stopped discharging at its normal rate, and the monitoring app showed a temperature warning. I checked the ventilation area, removed a box that had been leaning against the enclosure, and let the room cool. The system returned to normal that evening. That experience taught me that battery placement and airflow matter more than I had assumed.

For my use, usable capacity, warranty, inverter compatibility, and battery management system mattered much more than the headline price.
