Solution Solar Battery DIY Parts
X-shaped shadows from the afternoon chimney used to remind me that our rooftop solar panels were producing power, but I rarely knew where that electricity went. Since installing a home battery last spring, I have a much clearer answer: it waits for the expensive evening hours.
Our system is modest: a 10-kWh solar energy storage battery paired with 6 kW of panels. I did not buy it expecting energy independence. I wanted to stop buying grid electricity during our utility’s peak window, especially when the heat pump and induction cooker run together.
The installer finished in a day and spent more time explaining the battery app than I expected. That was worthwhile: I can see solar generation, state of charge, household load, and whether the inverter is charging or discharging. The only odd detail was a label in the monitoring portal reading “ZXZlKzMuNi”. It looked like a software placeholder, not a fault, and the installer confirmed the same.
My best savings show up between 4 and 9 p.m. On sunny days, the panels fill the battery by late afternoon. After sunset, the battery quietly covers the refrigerator, lights, router, and cooking load. We still use some grid power, but our peak consumption has fallen noticeably. My bills are typically $35–$50 lower than last year, weather adjusted, with the biggest difference during hot months.
A small troubleshooting moment made the setup feel real. One evening, the app showed 18% charge while the battery was idle. I checked the breaker, restarted the gateway, and waited ten minutes. The reading corrected itself after the system resynchronized. Support later said it was a temporary communication hiccup, not lost capacity.
I now check the app occasionally, rather than obsessing over every kilowatt-hour. The battery has made our solar investment feel practical, predictable, and pleasantly boring.
