I installed a yinlong battery alongside my rooftop solar system. During the day, the panels produced plenty, but our family used most power after sunset—cooking dinner, running the dishwasher, and charging two cars. Sending that excess solar back to the grid felt like giving away the best part of the system.

The setup was less dramatic than I expected. My installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to the inverter, and configured it to charge from solar first. The monitoring app took a few days to understand, but now I mostly check the state of charge and daily energy flow over breakfast. On a sunny day, the battery usually reaches full charge by early afternoon. It then carries the house through the expensive evening period, when our utility’s time-of-use rate is highest.

The savings have been the most noticeable benefit. Before adding energy storage, our summer bill averaged about $185. Afterward, it fell to roughly $92, depending on air-conditioning use. I still pay a connection fee and occasionally pull grid power overnight, but the change is obvious. One particularly hot month, the battery covered nearly all of our 4–9 p.m. usage, including the heat pump and kitchen appliances.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. The battery stopped discharging during a firmware update, and the app showed a warning I didn’t recognize. I contacted the installer, who explained that the system was protecting itself while updating. It resumed normally that evening, although I now avoid scheduling updates before dinner.

What I appreciate most is the predictability. Solar panels reduce daytime consumption, while the yinlong battery shifts that production into the hours when my household actually needs it. I am not completely energy independent, but my solar battery has made our bills steadier and our rooftop investment far more useful.
