After I installed a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery beside my solar inverter, my evening routine changed more than I expected. I used to watch the utility meter climb after sunset, especially when cooking dinner and running the heat pump. Now the battery takes over quietly, and I barely notice the change except on my bill.
The setup was straightforward. My installer connected it to the hybrid inverter. I wanted solar power stored during the afternoon, then discharged during expensive peak hours, rather than charging from the grid overnight.
My first full month was the real test. Before storage, my household used roughly 18 kWh from the grid on an average day. After installation, that dropped to about 6 kWh, mostly because the battery covered our evening load. My bill fell by approximately 35 percent, even though my local utility raised rates. Weather varies, so I am not claiming the same savings every month, but the peak-hour reduction has been very consistent.
I also had one minor troubleshooting moment. During a storm, the app showed the battery at 100 percent, yet the inverter reported standby. I checked the breaker, restarted the inverter, and waited ten minutes. It turned out the backup setting had been disabled after a firmware update. I re-enabled it, and the next outage the battery switched over normally. Since then, I glance at the app weekly, not constantly.
One detail I appreciate is the built-in balancer. I cannot see it working, but the battery management system keeps the cells behaving evenly, which makes me more comfortable leaving the system unattended.
For my home, the biggest benefit is simple: I use more of my own solar electricity, buy less during peak hours, and worry less about short outages. The battery has not eliminated my bill, but it has made the daily energy pattern noticeably cheaper and calmer.
