I installed a home solar battery last spring, mainly because our electricity bills jumped whenever the air conditioner ran after dinner. My rooftop solar panels already produced plenty during the day, but without energy storage, I was sending much of that power back to the grid and buying it back at the expensive evening rate.
The installer recommended a lithium battery system, and I spent more time comparing usable capacity, inverter compatibility, warranty, and app controls than I expected. I eventually chose a setup using a yinlong battery module because the quoted capacity fit our overnight needs without oversizing the system.
Installation took most of a day. The crew mounted the battery beside the garage, connected it to the hybrid inverter, and showed me how to set a reserve level. I kept that reserve at twenty percent for outages, although I later raised it to thirty percent after a storm knocked out power nearby.
The biggest difference appears between 4 and 9 p.m. Before the battery, we routinely used grid electricity for cooking, laundry, and cooling during those hours. Now the battery charges from solar around lunchtime and discharges after sunset. Our monthly bill fell from roughly $210 last summer to about $125 this summer, despite similar weather. That is not a perfect apples-to-apples comparison, since utility rates changed, but the peak-hour savings are obvious on the monitoring graph. I especially like seeing the battery cover the dishwasher and heat pump together without pulling power from the grid.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the app showed the battery at zero percent, even though the inverter display showed normal operation. I turned off automatic discharge, waited ten minutes, and restarted the gateway. The reading corrected itself that evening. Support also confirmed no actual loss of capacity.
