Solution Solar Battery
Charging my home battery after sunset has become one of those small routines I barely think about anymore. I installed a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) solar battery last spring, mainly to avoid buying expensive grid electricity during the evening peak. My rooftop solar panels usually fill the battery by mid-afternoon, and the storage system then powers the house from around 4 p.m. until bedtime.
The difference shows up most clearly on hot days. Before adding battery storage, our air conditioner, refrigerator, and induction cooktop pushed our usage into the utility’s peak period. Now the battery handles most of that demand. My monthly bill has dropped by roughly $55 to $75, depending on the weather and how much solar energy we generate. It is not a dramatic “no electricity bill ever” situation, but the savings are steady, and I like using more of my own solar power instead of sending it back to the grid for a low credit.
I spent a surprising amount of time comparing inverter compatibility and searching phrases like “u charge lithium battery” while trying to understand charging settings. The most useful practical detail was setting a reserve level. I keep 20% in reserve rather than draining the battery completely every night. That gives me some backup capacity and seems gentler on the battery.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment during the first month. The battery stopped discharging because the inverter reported a communication fault. I turned off the system according to the manual, waited a few minutes, and restarted it. The connection came back, and it has been stable since. I also tightened the Wi-Fi signal near the inverter because monitoring had been unreliable.
For me, the biggest benefit of this solar battery system is predictable evening power use. I check the app occasionally, but I mostly appreciate that the house quietly runs on stored solar energy when grid rates are highest.
