Our system stores excess rooftop solar during the afternoon, then runs the house after sunset. Before installation, those hours were exactly when our utility charged its highest rate.

The first full month with the battery, our bill dropped from around $210 to $126, despite similar weather and usage. That $84 difference is more noticeable than any sales estimate because I can see the energy app showing our evening grid use nearly flat. We still pay a connection fee and buy electricity on cloudy stretches, but peak-hour consumption has become the exception rather than the rule.

One small hiccup happened during the second week. The battery stopped discharging at night, and the app showed it waiting for a firmware update. I power-cycled the gateway, but that did nothing. Customer support answered the next morning and explained that the inverter needed a scheduled restart after the update. They walked me through it, and the system was normal that evening. It was not dramatic, but I appreciated having an actual person explain the solar battery settings instead of sending me a generic link.

I now check the state of charge once or twice a week, not obsessively. We keep a 20-percent reserve for outages, although our neighborhood has only lost power twice since installation. For me, the real win is predictable evening energy: solar power storage batteries quietly do.
