Using my solar battery for six months has changed the way I think about electricity at home. The biggest difference is what happens after sunset. Before installing the sun2000 system, my panels stopped helping around dinner time, just when our household started using the oven, dishwasher, and heat pump. Those evening peaks were expensive.
I chose a 10 kWh home energy storage battery after comparing a few quotes. The installer connected it to my existing rooftop array. Setup took most of one day. Waiting for utility approval was frustrating. Once approved, the app made the battery status surprisingly easy to understand. I set it to charge from solar during the day and discharge during our peak evening rate.
On a typical weekday, the battery reaches 100 percent by midafternoon. By 9 p.m., it has usually covered the cooking, laundry, and television load, leaving perhaps 15 to 25 percent overnight. That sounds modest, but it has reduced my monthly bill from roughly $185 in summer to about $110. Savings vary with cloudy weather, of course; on two rainy days, I still buy grid power after dark. However, avoiding the highest time-of-use prices feels more valuable than chasing perfect energy independence.
I did have one small troubleshooting moment. During the first hot weekend, the battery stopped discharging at 20 percent, even though the app showed plenty of stored energy. I discovered the backup reserve had accidentally been set to 20 percent during commissioning. After lowering that reserve to 10 percent, everything worked normally. I now check the forecast before unusually cloudy days and keep the reserve higher when storms are expected.
Overall, the solar battery has not eliminated my bill, but it has made costs more predictable. Using my own solar power after sunset during our busiest evening hours through the week too feels like the real payoff.
