The setup was straightforward. The installer mounted the battery, connected it to the inverter, and configured a reserve of 20 percent. I chose that setting because I wanted backup power without giving up too much capacity. On a normal sunny day, the battery reaches full charge around afternoon. It then runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, lights, and television through the expensive evening period. I wake up with roughly 35 to 45 percent remaining, depending on how long we use the heat pump.

The difference on my bill has been the highlight. My consumption used to be the part, but now it comes from stored solar energy. Across the first five months, my monthly bill fell by about $45 compared with the same season last year. That is not a dramatic promise of energy independence, but it is a real, visible saving for my household. I like seeing less grid import in the monitoring app.

I did have one scare during the first month. The battery stopped discharging at 50 percent, even though the app showed temperatures. I found that a backup-reserve setting had been changed during a firmware update. Restoring the 20 percent reserve fixed it immediately. Since then, the solar battery has been predictable. I check the state of charge once or twice a week, but otherwise it does its job. For me, the lithium battery storage system earns its space by shifting solar power into the hours when electricity costs the most.
