Solution Solar Inverter
Every morning, I check my solar app before making coffee. Last summer I added a 10kWh home battery to our rooftop solar system, mainly because our utility charges much more between 4pm and 9pm. The installation took most of a day, and the crew was finished before dinner. I was relieved that the inverter and battery cabinet fit neatly beside the garage, rather than taking over the laundry area.
The biggest difference has been after work. Before residential battery storage, we often sent cheap afternoon solar straight back to the grid, then bought electricity during dinner. Now the battery usually reaches full charge by early afternoon. It powers our refrigerator, lights, induction cooktop, and Wi-Fi overnight. On sunny days, the app shows almost no grid use from 4pm onward. My evening consumption used to cost roughly $1.50–$2.00 per night; now it is commonly under $0.30. Across a normal month, that saves me around $35–$50, depending on weather and how often we cook at home.
I did have one small troubleshooting scare. During a storm, the battery stopped discharging and the app showed “standby.” I checked the obvious things—breaker, Wi-Fi, and the inverter screen—then discovered the system had paused itself for grid protection. After the utility power stabilized, it resumed automatically within about ten minutes. I appreciated that, though I still saved a screenshot and called the installer the next morning. They confirmed it was normal storm behavior, not a battery fault.
The battery has not eliminated my electric bill, but it has made our solar investment noticeably more useful. I also like having backup power for the refrigerator and internet during short outages. For me, predictability matters most every evening.
