Every evening, after dinner, I check my battery monitor before settling down. Since adding solar energy storage last spring, my routine has changed. Instead of sending excess midday solar power straight back to the grid, I save it for the expensive evening hours.
The biggest difference shows up on hot days. My air conditioner used to start running around dinner, exactly when electricity rates climbed. Now the inverter quietly switches to stored energy, and I see less grid consumption on the utility app. Before the battery, my summer bills commonly reached about $210; lately they have been closer to $125, although weather and rates vary. These days, I am not chasing energy independence every minute. I simply let solar panels charge the battery, use stored power during peak pricing, and keep a little emergency backup available. The quieter bills and knowing the refrigerator will stay on during an outage make the battery worth it.
