Solution Solar Battery
I installed a solar battery system last summer, mainly because our electricity bill jumped whenever the air conditioner ran in the evening. My setup is fairly ordinary: six rooftop panels, a 5kW hybrid inverter, and a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery. I spent far more time comparing installer quotes than I expected, including searching for the exact phrase "microtek inverter with battery price list 2022" while trying to understand older pricing. The final quote was clearer than the online listings, and the installer explained every line item before I paid.
The biggest difference is what happens between 5 and 9 p.m. Before the battery, our house pulled expensive grid power after sunset. Now, the solar panels charge the battery during the day, and the stored energy runs the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and usually the air conditioner through dinner. I set the battery to reserve 20 percent, so I am not completely exposed during a nighttime outage.
On sunny weeks, my evening grid use is almost zero. Our monthly bill fell from roughly $210 to $85, though winter clouds push it back above $120. Those savings are more noticeable than the app's attractive graphs: I can actually see fewer peak-hour charges on the utility statement.
I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the inverter stopped discharging the battery at night. The monitoring app showed the battery at 78 percent, but our appliances were quietly drawing from the grid. I restarted the inverter and checked the time-of-use schedule; the update had reset my discharge window. Re-entering the 5–9 p.m. schedule fixed it immediately.
That was a useful reminder that solar battery storage is not completely “set and forget.” I now glance at the battery state of charge every few days, especially after an app update. The system feels worthwhile.
