I installed a 10-kWh lithium battery last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. My rooftop solar already covered most daytime use, but our cooking, laundry, and heat-pump schedule landed right in the utility’s peak window. The battery has made that timing much less stressful.

On a sunny day, the solar panels usually fill the battery by mid-afternoon. Once rates rise around 4 p.m., the inverter switches over automatically, and the house runs from stored energy. I can see the change in the monitoring app: grid import drops to almost nothing while the battery slowly discharges through dinner. Before installation, I was paying roughly $0.32 per kWh during those hours. Now my average peak-period usage is below 2 kWh, compared with 8–10 kWh previously. That works out to about $2.00 to $2.50 saved on a typical weekday, or approximately $55 to $70 a month.

There is no noise in the garage beyond a faint inverter hum, and I do not have to remember to press buttons. I set a minimum 20% reserve for outages, while the energy management software handles the rest. During one cloudy week, the battery did not fully charge, so it only shifted a few hours of usage. Even then, it reduced my evening bill rather than performing miracles.

I did have one minor troubleshooting moment. The app showed “offline” after our router updated its firmware. The battery itself kept operating, but I could not see state of charge remotely. Restarting the communications gateway fixed it in about ten minutes.

One note for anyone searching “lithiun eve” batteries: check the warranty, usable capacity, and installer support, not just the advertised battery capacity. My solar-plus-storage setup is not eliminating the bill, but it has made it far more predictable, and the savings are easy to notice.
