I installed a solar battery system last spring, mainly to stop buying so much electricity during the evening peak. My rooftop panels already covered most daytime use, but our cooking, laundry, and air-conditioning happened after sunset, when power was most expensive. The battery has made that timing problem much less painful.
The biggest difference shows up on weekdays. By around 2 p.m., the lithium battery is usually full, assuming decent sunshine. When the panels stop producing, the battery automatically takes over, and I can watch the energy monitor switch from grid import to stored power. We use 7 to 9 kWh overnight, and the battery supplies nearly all of it. My monthly bill has fallen from $180 in summer to $95, although weather and utility rates change. I have not eliminated the bill, but the peak-hour savings are easy to see.
The electrician mounted the battery in the garage, close to the inverter, and configured a backup reserve so it does not discharge completely.
