lithium battery 5kwh

I installed a lithium battery 5kwh system beside my inverter last spring, mainly because our evening electricity rates had become frustrating. We already had rooftop solar, but most of our generation happened while we were out working. By the time we came home, the dishwasher, cooking, lights, and heat pump were all pulling expensive grid power.

The setup was easier than I expected. The installer mounted the solar battery in the garage, connected it to the hybrid inverter, and configured it to charge from excess solar during the day. I chose a time-of-use setting so it would discharge automatically during the evening peak. The app took a few days to understand, but now I mostly check it out of curiosity rather than necessity.

Our usual battery charge is around 4.5 kWh after a reasonably sunny day. That covers dinner, the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and television for several hours. We still use the grid on cloudy days, but our peak-hour consumption has dropped noticeably. Before adding storage, our monthly bill in summer was about $145. It now averages closer to $95, although weather and our air-conditioning use make the comparison imperfect. The biggest benefit is not being completely dependent on solar production happening at the exact moment we need it.

I did have one minor scare during the first month. The battery stopped discharging one evening, and the app showed a warning about temperature. I checked the garage and found the door had been left closed during an unusually hot afternoon. After cooling down, the system resumed normally. I also added a small ventilation fan, though the installer said the battery was still within its operating range.

So far, the solar battery has been quiet, predictable, and more useful than I expected. It has not eliminated my electricity bill, but it has made our existing solar panels far more practical, especially during those expensive evening hours.
