Solution Solar Inverter
I installed my home solar battery last autumn after getting tired of watching electricity prices jump every evening. My rooftop panels already covered most daytime use, but once the sun went down, I was pulling power from the grid at the most expensive hours.
The setup was less intimidating than I expected. A local installer mounted a 10-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery in the garage, connected it to the inverter, and configured it to charge from solar first. The app showed energy flowing into storage during lunch, then switching the house over to battery power around 4:30pm. I did have to change one setting: the battery reserve was initially set at 20%, which felt too low during a cloudy week. I raised it to 35%, and that gave me more confidence without noticeably reducing savings.
The biggest difference shows up on my bill. Before storage, my average winter bill was about $185. After two full months, it dropped to $112, despite similar weather and usage. I am not claiming the battery eliminated my bill; fixed charges remain, and several gray days still require grid electricity. Still, the system avoids buying much of my peak-rate power. My dishwasher, electric water heater, and heat-pump often run after sunset, yet the battery handles those loads quietly.
One evening I noticed the app showing zero battery output while the lights were on. I checked the breaker and found the backup circuit had tripped after a brief utility flicker. Resetting it fixed everything, and the installer later reduced the inverter sensitivity. That small hiccup taught me to check the status screen before assuming the storage battery had failed.
I also learned not to confuse a lithium battery for drone with residential solar storage; specifications, safety controls, and inverter compatibility differ completely in practical everyday home use.
