I installed a 10 kWh LiFePO4 solar battery in my garage last autumn, mainly to stop buying electricity during the expensive evening hours. The installation was less dramatic than I expected. My electrician mounted the cabinet, connected it to my existing inverter, and programmed a 20% reserve so I would not completely drain the pack overnight.

After two cloudy days, I began paying close attention to the battery monitor. That screen quickly became my favorite household gadget.

During sunny afternoons, the panels filled the battery by about 3 p.m., and the system carried our cooking, laundry, and heating load until bedtime. Before storage, our grid meter jumped noticeably when the family came home. Now the battery supplies most of that period. My utility uses time-of-use pricing, so the savings are clearest between 5 and 9 p.m.

In the first full month, our bill dropped from roughly $168 to $104, even though the weather was not especially sunny. That $64 difference felt more convincing than any brochure. The following month was better: $91. I still use grid electricity, of course, but our evening peak consumption is much lower. We usually reach 80% battery state of charge before sunset, then slowly discharge it overnight.

I was initially nervous about performance during a cold week in January. I had read discussions about “lifepo4 токоотдача” and wondered whether the battery could handle our kettle, induction cooktop, and heat pump starting together. One evening, the inverter briefly showed a low-temperature warning and stopped charging. Nothing was broken: the battery heater needed time to warm the cells. I changed the charge schedule to start later in the morning, and the warning disappeared.

Since then, I have left the reserve at 25% during winter, which gives me peace of mind rather than squeezing out every last kilowatt-hour.
