After two years of watching my electricity bills climb, I finally installed a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery beside my inverter. The setup was less intimidating than I expected, although I did spend a Saturday labeling cables, checking polarity, and reading the battery manual twice.

My electrician connected the battery to the hybrid inverter and programmed it to charge from excess midday solar, then discharge during the evening peak period. I also keep a small backup setup with a "battery charger 24v 30a" for occasional bench charging and testing; it is not my main charging path, but it has been handy.

The biggest change showed up on my utility bill. Before storage, my household used grid power from roughly 4:30 p.m. until bedtime, especially when cooking dinner and running the heat-pump water heater. Now the solar battery covers those hours most nights.

On sunny days, it usually reaches 100 percent by early afternoon. By 7:30 in the evening, it is commonly around 55–65 percent, depending on laundry and cooking. That sounds modest, but it has cut my peak-rate consumption enough to lower my monthly bill by about $45–$70, with bigger savings in summer. I track this through my utility app and the inverter dashboard instead of relying on one unusually cheap month.

The battery has also made outages less stressful. During one winter outage lasting nearly three hours, it kept our refrigerator, Wi-Fi router, a few lights, and my daughter's charging cable running. I noticed the inverter fan become louder when the battery was working hard, but it never overheated or shut down.

My only minor troubleshooting moment came when the battery stopped charging one cloudy afternoon. The app showed a grid setting I had accidentally changed while exploring menus. Once I restored the correct mode, charging resumed quickly. That small scare taught me to stop changing settings casually and save screenshots of the working configuration.
