Using my solar battery storage system for six months, I have noticed the biggest change during our evening peak period. Before installing it, our panels produced plenty of power at lunchtime, but we still imported electricity after dinner when rates were highest. Good solar production was not enough; I wanted fewer surprises on the monthly bill, not just a larger solar array.
The installation was less disruptive than expected. The installer mounted a 10-kWh lithium battery in our garage beside the hybrid inverter and finished the wiring in a day. I had to buy growatt inverter after comparing several quotes, but I chose the model my installer already knew well. The app connected quickly, although the battery took two days to settle into its charge schedule. I set a reserve of twenty percent, which leaves emergency backup without wasting much usable capacity. During normal days, solar fills the battery by early afternoon. We then run the dishwasher, induction cooktop, and heat pump from stored energy after sunset.
The first week was slightly annoying. One morning, the monitoring app showed the battery at 100 percent even though the forecast promised heavy clouds. I checked the schedule and found that it was still set to charge from the grid overnight. After switching that setting off, the behavior made sense: it charged only from solar unless the reserve needed topping up. That small troubleshooting moment taught me to check tariff and backup settings, rather than blame the battery immediately.
The savings are clearest on weekdays. Our evening import used to average about 9 kilowatt-hours. Now the battery covers roughly 6 of those kilowatt-hours, while the remaining grid use happens outside the expensive window. Our bills have fallen by 25 to 35 percent, depending on weather. That is more meaningful to me than colorful graphs.
