Solution Solar Battery
I installed a 10kWh LiFePO4 solar battery in my garage last spring, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity from the grid. The installation was less dramatic than I expected, although getting the battery cabinet through a narrow side gate was a genuine two-person job. My installer connected it to the hybrid inverter and left the monitoring app running on my phone.
The first week was when I became convinced it was worthwhile. On sunny days, my rooftop solar panels filled the battery by mid-afternoon. Instead of exporting most of that power for a small credit, I used stored energy after dinner. The battery usually covered our cooking, lights, and television until bedtime. My evening grid consumption dropped from roughly 8kWh to 1kWh. That change cut my monthly bill by about $45–$60, depending on weather and air-conditioning use. It is not a life-changing fortune, but the saving feels very real when I check the utility statement.
I also learned not to panic over numbers in the app. One morning, the state of charge appeared stuck at 99%, and the displayed lifepo4 battery cell voltage looked slightly higher than usual. After checking the connections and calling support, I discovered the system was simply balancing cells during its top charge. The warning cleared later that day, and it has not returned.
For daily use, I keep a 20% reserve, which gives me backup power during short outages without constantly draining the battery completely. The quiet operation is another pleasant surprise; I barely hear the inverter from the hallway. My only regret is waiting so long to add energy storage. It has made my solar system much more useful, especially during peak hours when grid electricity is most expensive here.
