lifepo4 basen

I installed my home battery last spring, mainly because our evening electricity rates had become ridiculous. The system is a 10 kWh lifepo4 basen battery paired with 6 kW of rooftop solar, and the biggest difference has been how little power I buy after sunset.

My installer mounted the battery in the garage, connected it to a hybrid inverter, and configured it to charge from solar during the day. On sunny days, the battery usually reaches full charge by about 2 p.m. Then it carries the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and sometimes the washing machine through the expensive evening period.

Before adding energy storage, our monthly bill in summer was usually around $180. Since installing the solar battery, it has averaged $65, even though our air conditioner is still running. The best savings come between 4 and 9 p.m., when I now use stored solar energy instead of grid electricity. I am not claiming the battery erased the bill; cloudy weeks and winter heating still hurt. However, the peak-hour reduction is obvious on every utility statement.

I did have one troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the monitoring app showed the battery at zero percent while the inverter said it was half full. Restarting the gateway fixed it in about ten minutes, and the recorded energy data caught up later that day.

What I appreciate most is the quiet, automatic operation. I do not have to think about switching circuits or starting a generator. The lithium iron phosphate chemistry also gives me peace of mind, and the battery has stayed cool and consistent. For my house, solar panels alone were useful; adding home energy storage made the savings practical after sunset.
