I installed a 5kWh LiFePO4 battery in my home last spring, mainly to use more of my rooftop solar after sunset. Before adding storage, my panels produced plenty during the day, but our household used most electricity between 5 and 10 p.m. The excess solar went to the grid, while I bought power back during the expensive evening period.
The biggest surprise was how quickly the battery became part of our normal routine. On a sunny day, it usually reaches full charge by mid-afternoon. Once the sun goes down, it powers the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, television, and sometimes the washing machine. I set the inverter to reserve 25 percent as backup, so I still have some capacity if the grid fails. We have had two short outages since installation, and the changeover was quick enough that I only noticed because the inverter app sent an alert.
Our evening electricity use has dropped noticeably. My monthly bill is not zero, because we still import power on cloudy days and during winter, but the expensive peak-hour consumption has fallen by roughly half. Based on my recent bills, I am saving around $45 to $70 per month compared with the same season last year. The actual result depends heavily on weather and utility rates, but shifting solar energy into the evening has made a practical difference.
I did spend time comparing battery brands, warranty terms, usable capacity, and the lifepo4 200ah battery price. I eventually chose LiFePO4 because the chemistry felt like a sensible fit for daily cycling and home energy storage. Installation was straightforward, although the electrician had to update the inverter firmware before the battery would communicate properly.
My only annoyance has been the monitoring app, which occasionally shows delayed charge readings. The battery itself has been quiet and reliable. For me, solar battery storage has been less about energy independence and more about wasting less of the solar power I already generate.
