Solution Solar Inverter
I installed my home solar battery last spring, mainly to stop sending cheap midday electricity back to the grid and buying it during expensive evening hours. My system is a 10-kilowatt-hour lithium iron phosphate unit built around lithium ion prismatic cells, paired with my 6-kilowatt rooftop array. I chose a floor-standing model because I wanted a straightforward installation in the utility room rather than squeezing something under the stairs.
The setup was easier than I expected. An installer mounted the inverter, connected the battery storage system to my existing solar inverter, and spent most of the afternoon checking communication between the energy meter and monitoring app. I did have to update the Wi-Fi after the first evening, since the app showed no battery state-of-charge data. A router restart fixed it, thankfully. I now glance at the app mostly to see whether the battery charged from solar or grid power.
The biggest difference is between 4 and 9 p.m. Before storage, my household routinely pulled power from the grid after dinner, when rates were highest. Now the battery runs the refrigerator, lights, heat-pump water heater, and my office equipment through that window. On sunny days, it reaches 100 percent by early afternoon and usually falls to about 35 percent by bedtime. That reserve gives me some comfort during short outages, although I do not treat it as a whole-home backup.
My monthly bill dropped from roughly $165 to $92 over the first three comparable months. Weather explains part of that change, but the peak-hour savings are obvious in my utility statements. I still buy electricity on cloudy days, and winter will be tougher, so I am not pretending the battery eliminates every bill.
What I appreciate is the quiet routine: solar generation fills the battery, and I use grid power as backup.
