Every evening, I used to watch the electricity meter creep upward after dinner, when our heat pump, dishwasher, and lights were all running. Since installing a kepworth lithium battery beside the inverter, that habit has changed completely for us.
At around 4:30 p.m., the solar panels have usually stopped producing much, but the battery is still near full. Instead of buying expensive peak-rate electricity, our hybrid inverter pulls power from storage until about 9:30. That simple shift has made the biggest difference on my bill. In the first full month, our bill fell from roughly $186 to $112, despite similar weather and usage. The following month was $108. I know bills vary, but seeing the evening demand disappear from the utility graph was satisfying.
The most useful feature, though, has been the battery's reserve setting. I initially left it at 10 percent, thinking more usable capacity meant better savings. During a cloudy week, the battery reached that limit before sunrise, and the inverter switched to grid power earlier than I expected. Nothing was broken, but I disliked losing that backup cushion. I raised the reserve to 25 percent in the app, and now the system keeps enough energy for the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, and a few lights during a short outage. That's a practical compromise: slightly fewer evening savings, but much less worry when storms roll through.
I also appreciate that the lithium battery is quiet; I hear the inverter fan only occasionally. Installation was not glamorous—running conduit and explaining shutdown procedures took an afternoon—but the monitoring app made checks easy. I compare yesterday's solar production, state of charge, and grid use over breakfast. For my household, that visibility makes battery storage feel like a useful appliance, not a gadget.
