lithium battery 280ah

I installed my home solar battery system last spring, mainly to stop sending cheap daytime power back to the grid and use more of it after sunset. The centerpiece is a lithium battery 280ah, paired with eight rooftop panels and a hybrid inverter. I chose that capacity because our evening usage is fairly ordinary: cooking, laundry, lights, and occasionally the television, not heavy workshop loads.

The installation was less disruptive than I expected. The installer mounted the battery in our garage, beside the inverter, and ran a clean conduit through the wall. My only complaint was waiting two weeks for the utility approval. Once switched on, the monitoring app showed solar generation, battery state of charge, and household consumption in real time. That made it easy to see whether our settings were actually working.

The biggest difference appears during peak hours. Before storage, our utility bill jumped because the rate rose after 4 p.m. Now the battery charges from surplus solar around midday and discharges between 4 and 9 p.m. That shift has cut our monthly electricity bill by roughly 35 to 45 percent, depending on cloudy weather. It is not a dramatic zero-dollar bill, but seeing the evening meter draw nearly disappear is satisfying. We also avoid buying as much expensive grid electricity, which matters more than the occasional export credit we used to receive.

I did have one small troubleshooting moment. After a firmware update, the battery stopped discharging one evening, even though the app showed 78 percent charge. I power-cycled the inverter and checked its time-of-use schedule, which had mysteriously reset to “backup only.” Restoring the schedule fixed it immediately. Since then, I check firmware notes before accepting updates, and I keep the battery reserve at 20 percent for outages. That reserve has helped during outages.
