Nearly six months ago, I added a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery to my rooftop system, mainly to stop buying expensive evening electricity. My installer paired it with an inverter 3000w, and the difference showed up on my first bill.
Before the battery, I used to run the dishwasher, induction cooker, and water heater after dinner, when rates were highest. Now the solar battery charges through the late morning, then quietly carries the house from about 4:30pm until bedtime. I kept expecting the change to be modest, but my average monthly bill dropped from roughly $185 to $112 during the first month. It varies with weather, obviously, yet saving around $70 a month feels real.
The most useful surprise has been how little attention it needs. I check the battery state of charge in the monitoring app over coffee, but I am not constantly adjusting settings. I set a 20% reserve for outages, and the system automatically prioritizes solar power before drawing from the grid.
During one cloudy afternoon, it reached that reserve earlier than expected. The app showed a warning about low input, which initially worried me. I found a loose MC4 connector near one panel, reseated it, and production returned within minutes. That small issue was annoying, but it also reminded me that solar equipment still needs occasional checks, not just app watching.
I appreciate the battery during outages. Instead of hearing appliances shut down, I get seamless backup for the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, lights, and outlets. It will not run every heavy load on the inverter 3000w, so I avoid using the kettle and microwave together. That limitation is easy to live with, especially because the solar storage system covers the things I need. For a household, the lower bill and backup have made the investment feel worthwhile.
