Nights used to be the expensive part of my electricity bill, especially during summer when the air conditioner ran until morning. After installing a 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate solar battery with my inverex solar inverter, I started paying much more attention to when power was being used.

The setup was straightforward. The installer mounted the battery in my garage, connected it to the inverter, and programmed it to charge from rooftop solar during the day. By afternoon, the battery is usually around 95 percent, and it carries the house through the evening peak. I have not changed our routine; we cook dinner, run the dishwasher, and watch television as usual. The difference is that those activities now use stored solar energy instead of grid electricity.

My first month showed the result. Before the battery, our bill averaged $210 in the hottest months. With weather and usage, it dropped to $128. That is not a perfect saving because the utility still charges connection and fixed fees, but the reduction was noticeable. On mild days, the battery lasts until sunrise, although heavy air-conditioner use can drain it before midnight.

I did have one troubleshooting moment. One morning the monitoring app showed the battery at zero while the house was on grid power. I checked the inverter display and found that an update had paused discharge mode. After restarting the system and calling support, it resumed within ten minutes. Since then, I check the app a week rather than obsessing over every percentage.

The biggest practical benefit is peace of mind during outages. We have had two short blackouts, and the solar energy storage system switched over quickly enough that the refrigerator and Wi-Fi stayed on. I am not claiming total energy independence, but the battery has made our solar panels far more useful after sunset.
